HIBIKI TOKAI A third-class citizen of the Tarak empire who makes his living as a parts mechanic. Hibiki is a restless young man who constantly dreams of a better life-- he desires interesting friends, new experiences, and a taste of adventure. He ends up getting a bit more than he'd bargained for, and functions as the lead Vanguard pilot on the Nirvana.

DITA One of the Dread pilots, Dita's good reflexes and skill in combat compensate for her complete lack of attention span. She's obsessed with the idea of UFOs and unfamiliar civilizations. Accordingly, she's very interested in the Tarak prisoners on the Nirvana. In particular, she takes an interest in Hibiki, whom she insists on calling "Mr. Alien".

DUERO MCFILE A first-class citizen and a medical doctor, Duero is every bit as intelligent, crafty, and scheming as he looks. He's a versatile man who freely and effectively applies his knowledge of medical technology and concepts to his duties on the Nirvana, which also include helping out in Engineering when he's needed. Surprisingly, Duero is also kind and considerate, and quickly wins Parfet's friendship.

MEIA GISHORN Commander of the Nirvana's Dread squadron, Meia is completely confident and businesslike-- consummate leadership material. She also happens to be very private, and is reluctant to rely on people or share her feelings with them. Nevertheless, Meia is strong-willed and kind; she may harrass Hibiki a lot, but she has more in common with him than she's ready to admit.

BART GARSUS A high-class citizen by virtue of his father, who owns a large food concern in the Tarak Empire. Bart is lazy and undisciplined, but his quick thinking and training as a helmsman (or so he says) make him essential to the crew of the Nirvana. In fact, if it wasn't for his unique ability to interface with the Nirvana, he'd probably be peeling potatoes...

Jura  BASIL FLDEN is a member of the Dread squadron. She tends to prance around in a rather scanty outfit, and is overly concerned with her own physical appearance. She also fixates on things of beauty, which makes her a nuisance to Hibiki when she decides that his Vanguard's fusion with the Nirvana's Dreads are very elegant and beautiful-- she simply must see what her combination would look like - after all, it would be the most beautiful one!

Paiway  UNDERBERG is the youthful nurse practicioner of the Nirvana. An energetic girl, Paiway loves prying into other people's business. Always accompanied by her camera and her frog puppet (which she frequently uses to amuse or baffle her conversational partners), Paiway is a capable medical technician, if a bit obsessed with hygeine.
Misty  CORNWELL was actually salvaged from an old escape pod from Earth. Since she's technically 77 (but physically 14), she has all sorts of crazy old-fashioned ideas about men and women. Particularly, she thinks that it would be great if she could be Hibiki's "girlfriend", an idea that baffles Dita with a confused fury.

CHEIF This is the Nirvana's usual engineering chief. She wears an orange jumpsuit-- just like Parfet. And she wears glasses-- just like Parfet.

REBECCA At the end of the road, we finally get to meet the ohma of Kahlua and Ezra's mate, Rebecca. Naturally, she doesn't get along very well with Pyoro, but she's a vauable ally, having spent the bulk of the story back on Mejale, filling in for Magno as leader of the pirates.

Amarone is one of the three members of the bridge crew whose role is to track damage reports. Her main hobby is gossip.

OSA Hibiki encounters this mysterious wise man after crashing his Vanguard on a planet during an electromagnetic storm. Osa is the partriarch of a society of telepaths, men and women who have had their actual voices stolen by the harvesters from Earth. Osa's role is a small but very important one-- he's eager to give Hibiki the guidance he needs.

Gascogne Rheinau is one of the more colorful crewmembers of the Nirvana-- in charge of the ship's weapons stockpiles and supplies, she's loudmouthed, crude, and extremely friendly. Her excellent management of the ship's supply depot keeps things running smoothly. Just remember not to call her "Gasco"-- it's one of her pet peeves.

RABAT Not much is known about this spacebound merchant. He's not exactly on good terms with the Nirvana-- they're willing to trade with him, but he seems to know a lot more than he's letting on about the aliens pursuing the Nirvana, and about men and women in general. To complicate things, he's constantly at odds with Hibiki.

Utan is Rabat's sole crewmate. She operates his ship's weapons systems with remarkable skill for an ape (not to mention unmistakable glee). She's generally well-behaved, but finds Pyoro irresistible-- she spends most of her time on board the Nirvana chasing him.
Barnette ORANGELLO  is yet another member of the Nirvana's Dread squadron. She seems very fond of Jura, emulating her in dress. She harbors an ill-concealed dislike of the male prisoners onboard the Nirvana, and is also known to be a bit reckless and impulsive. Still, she's a capable Dread pilot.

Magno  VIVAN (usually simply referred to as "Captain") is the shrewd and intelligent commander of the Nirvana. She's a consummate leader-- quick-witted, taciturn, and very observant. She's an excellent tactician and a charismatic leader, which makes her a force to be reckoned with. She's also unusually frank with the men, and is usually willing to listen to their ideas and thoughts.

Buzam A CALESSA , more commonly known as B.C., is the Nirvana's first officer. She's both physically imposing and extremely intelligent-- she's almost as good a thinker as Magno, which makes her a good foil for the captain. She's not unsociable, but she's very quiet and reserved. B.C. only speaks when things need to be said.
EZRA VIEIL The Nirvana's communications officer is unique in one regard-- she's just given birth to a child! Ezra works hard to balance her duties on the bridge with taking care of Kahlua, her newborn daughter. Pyoro is more than happy to help babysit the tyke, but Ezra is a little worried that he'll have too much influence on the child.

KAHLUA Ezra's newborn daughter. There isn't much to say about her, because she's just a baby. She cries, she drools, she smiles, she laughs, and she does all sorts of other baby-related things. Nevertheless, she's a favorite of the entire crew, especially Pyoro, who insists on calling her "Pyoro 2."

GRANDMA The enigmatic matriarch of the Mejale. Her motives and identity are just as mysterious as GrandPa's. Will forcing her to communicate on equal terms with GrandPa bring an end to the war and unite the two factions against Earth's harvesters?

GRANDPA The mysterious patriarch of the Taraak Empire. What could his motives be? Does he have any relationship with Hibiki or the other men aboard the Nirvana? What does he know about Earth, and why has he gone to war against the Mejale?

CHEIF This is the Nirvana's usual engineering chief. She wears an orange jumpsuit-- just like Parfet. And she wears glasses-- just like Parfet.

KYUNMEI OZEKI Remember this guy, from way back at the beginning of the story, when the Ikazuchi first launched? Well, he's still around, and he's more than happy to lend his skills as leader of the Special Bangata Attack Squadron to the Nirvana in their fight against Earth's formidable harvester fleet. He's an ornery pilot, and his specially-designed Vanguard is quite handy with a spear.

CELTRIC Third member of the Nirvana's bridge crew. Like Amarone, it's her job to track the status of various aspects of the Nirvana and report them to the Captain and First Officer. Celtic also owns an amazing collection of costumes that she prefers to wear as her uniform.

BELVEDERE As the Nirvana's battles grow more frequent and more pitched, you'll start to notice Belvedere more and more-- she mans the ship's radar and tracking systems. Since, her duties are crucial to the Nirvana's success it's a good thing that she performs them quite well
